  • Using an unsuitable coil can damage your motorcycle’s electronic ignition module. To identify the ignition type, follow this test procedure: 1) Check whether the coil being replaced is a High Tower version (these coils do NOT replace Single Tower models). 2) Using a voltmeter or a 12 V test light, connect the positive lead to the + terminal and the negative lead to ground on one of the original coils. 3) Turn the ignition on without engaging the starter. 4) If the coil receives 12 V, the ignition is inductive; if there is no voltage, it is a CDI ignition, with power first passing through the control module.
