  • On XL models from 1986 to 2015, installing shock absorbers may require modifying or adding a spacer to the chain/belt housing to ensure sufficient clearance.
  • A shock absorber slightly longer than the original may alter the rake angle and result in quicker, more responsive steering.
  • A shock absorber slightly shorter than the original may also change the rake angle, but will tend to slow the steering for gentler handling.
  • Heavy-duty versions are recommended for motorcycles that are used at or near the manufacturer's stated maximum load more than 50% of the time, to ensure longevity and safety.
  • Before purchasing or installing shock absorbers of a different length than the OEM, check that the change in wheel travel will not cause interference (swingarm/axle with the exhaust, or chain/belt guard with the tire).
