  • On XL models from '86–'15, installing shock absorbers may require modifying or shimming the chain/belt case to ensure sufficient clearance.
  • A shock slightly longer than the original may change the rake angle and make the steering slightly quicker.
  • A shock slightly shorter than the original may change the rake angle and slightly slow the steering.
  • Heavy-duty applications are recommended for motorcycles used at or near the manufacturer's maximum load more than 50% of the time.
  • Before purchasing or installing shock absorbers that differ in length from the original equipment, check that wheel travel can be altered without risk of interference (swingarm/axle with the exhaust, or chain/belt guard with the tire).
