  • On XL models ('86–'15), installing shocks may require modification or spacing of the chain/belt case to ensure adequate clearance.
  • A shock slightly longer than stock can change the rake and make the steering a bit quicker.
  • A shock slightly shorter than stock can also change the rake and slightly slow the steering.
  • Heavy-duty versions are recommended for motorcycles used at or near the manufacturer's maximum load for more than 50% of the time.
  • Before purchasing or installing shocks of a different length than OEM, check that wheel travel can be altered without risk of interference (swingarm/axle with the exhaust, or chain/belt guard with the tire).
