  • On XL models from 1986 to 2015, installing shocks may require modifying or adding spacers to the chain/belt case to ensure sufficient clearance.
  • A shock slightly longer than the original may alter the rake angle and make steering slightly quicker.
  • A shock slightly shorter than the original may also alter the rake angle and slow steering response.
  • For motorcycles used at or near the manufacturer's maximum load more than 50% of the time, heavy‑duty applications are recommended.
  • Before buying or installing shocks with a different length than the original (OEM), check that wheel travel can be changed without risk of interference (swingarm/axle with exhaust, or chain/belt case with the tire).
